A Dromore man who claims he takes cannabis to assist with illness has been fined £250.
The 23-year-old, of Quillyburn Manor, pleaded guilty at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday to possession of class B.
Court heard that the incident occurred on February 14, when police were patrolling they pulled the defendant’s car over.
It was noted by officers that there was a strong smell of cannabis and the driver appeared nervous.
A search was conducted by the police during which they found a grinder and a small amount of cannabis.
When interviewed the defendant gave a full admission to the charge.
Defence counsel stated that 23-year-old took the drug in order to assist with an illness which he suffered from and asked District Judge Bernie Kelly to take into account their client’s early plea.
It was also heard that the defendant had no previous record regarding any form of criminality.
Judge Kelly ordered him to pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15 within 10 weeks.
