Brain tumour charity enjoy respite weekend in Armagh

A charity set up to support families of brain tumour patients has been to Armagh for a weekend break.

And Lord Mayor Darryn Causby was delighted to be able to welcome the Brainwaves NI family to the city.

In all 38 families from across Northern Ireland, totallying 129 adults and young children, were able to enjoy all the attractions of Armagh for a very special weekend.

These events provide a great opportunity the families to get together and meet up with old friends and make new friends in a supportive atmosphere.

According to the charity, it allows them to share experiences and know they are not alone.

The inspiration for Brainwaves NI came from two patients who, although they had undergone successful surgery for removal of their brain tumours, were dismayed to find there was no information or support available for people in Northern Ireland.

In 1994, Pamela Watson and Billy Ferguson established the charity Brainwaves NI to support all those affected by a brain tumour.

At this time, Brainwaves NI was one of the first brain tumour support charities in the UK.

Although both founding members have since passed away, it is with the support of an increasing community of like-minded individuals across Northern Ireland that the present committee is able to continue to work in memory of Pamela and Billy.
