Twenty-three coach and group operators visited Armagh recently for a familiarisation trip in the hope of bringing more visitors to the area.
The group was participating in a sales initiative organised by Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Tourism Ireland Limited, in order to increase group visits to Northern Ireland from the GB market.
On Friday, September 12, representatives from Armagh’s accommodation and attraction sectors also attended a workshop with the operators.
The group arrived in Armagh on the Saturday afternoon, for an overnight stay at the Armagh City Hotel. During their trip, they visited Armagh Public Library, No5 Vicars’ Hill, The Archbishops Palace, The Argory and also enjoyed a panoramic tour of the City, taking in the two Saint Patrick’s Cathedrals.
Commenting on the visit, Sara McGeary, Tourism Development Officer, said: “GB has been identified as an important market for Northern Ireland’s tourism economy, equating to around 50% of visitors. Having 23 key players within the lucrative coach and group market, seeing first-hand our strong tourism product, provides us with a fantastic opportunity to increase visitors from these markets.”
