Commission reroutes Keady parade

A PROPOSED march route by the Keady Branch of the Apprentice Boys of Derry has been turned down by the Parades Commission yesterday (Friday).

Sinn Féin Councillor for the Keady area Darren McNally described the decision to reroute next Saturday’s parade as the “only sensible outcome”.

He was speaking following confirmation that the parade would not be allowed to travel through the Kinelowen and St Patrick Street areas.

“This is a very sensible decision and I am glad that the Parades Commission has heeded my submission to them,” he said.

“There was no precedence for the Apprentice Boys to march through this nationalist part of Keady and I would have to question their motives for making the application in the first place.

“I am supportive of the Apprentice Boys’ right to mark their culture but they simply should not have applied to march through this particular area of the town.

“I hope that the parade will pass off peacefully and residents of Keady are not inconvenienced next Saturday, August 10.  I will be monitoring this parade to ensure that all of the conditions are adhered to.”
