Two Dungannon companies were found guilty and fined £20,000 and £9,000 respectively for waste offences at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court today, Monday.
In November 2012, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency carried out a site inspection on lands near 42 Derryhirk Road, Dungannon, where they found an estimated 3,000 tonnes of waste including red brick, reinforced concrete, tiles, wood, metal, carpet, glass, plastic bags, shoes, electrical cabling and electronic circuit boards.
Tullyroan Oval Limited of Derryscallop Road, Dungannon, the site operator, was found guilty of four charges of permitting the deposit of controlled waste without there being in place an exemption or licence. They were fined £5,000 on each of these charges plus court costs of £70 and an offenders levy of £15.
R Heatrick Limited of Church Street, Portadown – who transported approximately 1,000 tonnes of the waste – was found guilty of three charges of depositing controlled waste without there being in place an exemption or licence and was fined £3,000 on each of the charges plus court costs of £70 and an offenders levy of £15.
