Condolences have been paid o the parents, family, friends and teachers of the young boy who passed away this morning (Friday).
Elected representatives in the Armagh area have united to offer their sincere condolences.
Sinn Fein Assembly member, Cathal Boylan said: “I am sure I speak for everyone in offering sincere condolences to this young boy’s parents and family. It really is shocking news and my thoughts are with his parents and wider family circle.
“A concerted effort needs to take place to try and address the issue of mental health in our society, and I will certainly be supporting any initiatives that come forward from whatever quarter to try and stop further tragedies in our communities.
Commenting, Sinn Féin council group leader, Roy McCartney said: “On behalf of myself and my colleagues, I extend deepest sympathy to the parents and family of the young boy who tragically passed away in such terrible circumstances. No words can express the sense of loss and grief they must feel at this time.
“Like the wider community in Armagh, when news first broke about the circumstances of this tragic incident on Monday, we have been hoping and praying that the young man would pull through, unfortunately news soon spread on Friday morning that despite the best efforts of medical staff he passed away and has left a massive void and many unanswered questions for those closest to him.
“I am aware his school have had counsellors in this week for pupils and staff if required, I hope that support continues now.
“It is always a shock to hear about someone taking or attempting to take their own life, it is even more of a shock and very sad when it is one so young. While I am aware of the various supports out there for vulnerable people, I feel the most effective way to deal with this serious issue in our society in through community support. Training and education, spotting the signs and being able to offer support and guidance are essential, in both urban and rural settings.
“Everyone deals with such tragedy in their own way, I hope the family’s wishes are respected if they feel they need space to grieve privately while knowing that they have the support of the wider community when they require it.”
