12-year-old child charged with attempted armed robbery

Boy accused faces seven charges over Co Armagh incident

A 12-year-old child has been charged with a catalogue of offences after an attempted armed robbery in Co Armagh.

The boy was charged by offices on Sunday morning following the incident at Legahory Centre in Craigavon on Friday.

He will face a total of seven charges including attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of an article with a blade or point.

A 14-year-old boy has already been charged with attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and assault on police.

He is expected to appear in court in Lisburn on Monday, August 20.

The charges against both boys follow an attempted robbery at a takeaway in Legahory, Craigavon on Friday.

The 14-year-old was charged on Saturday, while the 12-year-old arrested in connection with the same incident was held in custody and charges brought on Sunday morning.

It was reported that shortly before 11pm on Friday night police received a report that two young males armed with a knife and a hammer had entered a takeaway in the Legahory centre in Craigavon.

They threatened the staff inside, demanding money but fled empty handed.

Two males matching the description given of the would-be robbers were arrested a short time later in the Hillcrest Mews area.
