Alderman given update and assurances after swine flu death at Craigavon Hospital

It is business as usual at Craigavon Area Hospital and there is no need for concern at this stage.

That was the message given to a local DUP representative by the chief executive of the Southern Health Trust tonight after reports that a man had died as a result of swine flu.

Alderman Carla Lockhart said she had taken a number of calls from concerned families whose loved ones are currently in Craigavon Area Hospital.craigavon hospital big

The DUP representative reports: “I had an emergency call with the chief executive of the Trust to discuss the stress points, and she has assured me that it is business as normal with lives being saved day and daily.

“The chief executive has said when people are in hospital they have underlying health problems and that the flu virus is often carried by members of the public.

“People who have medical problems are susceptible to flu and this can be dangerous.

“The advice she is giving is that there is NO need for concern at this stage.

“Please stay away from visiting people in hospital if you have flu or feel unwell, and please get your flu vaccine if you are someone who is entitled to get it as swine flu (H1N1) has been included in the vaccine.”

While it was reported that a man who had contracted swine flu had died in Craigavon Hospital, it is understood the man had underlying health conditions to begin with.

The Irish News reported that two more people are in a critical condition in the same hospital.

The man’s death last week follows that of a child in the Republic
