Cancer nurse clocked speeding at 100mph on M1 spared driving ban because of his job

'I do not want him off the road given all of his responsibility and his profession which benefits all in this society'

A cancer nurse clocked driving at 100mph has been spared a driving ban because of the importance of his job to the community.

John McQuade (38), of Meadowvale Park in Omagh, was detected in a BMW 320d on the M1 motorway – a 70mph zone – at The Birches roundabout.

A defence lawyer told Craigavon Magistrates’ Court the defendant had been with a person who needed to get home urgently.

The lawyer said the defendant is a cancer nurse.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan said: “I do not want him off the road given all of his responsibility and his profession which benefits all in this society.”

He handed down five penalty points along with a £150 fine.
