Car parking at Craigavon hospital to be significantly reduced

Car parking spaces at Craigavon hospital will be greatly reduced with the commencement of construction work on the site.

From Monday, April 25, the main car park for patients and visitors will be greatly reduced in size and the displaced spaces will be provided at the new extended car park beside GP Out of Hours.

The new parking arrangements are to make way for the new Paediatric Centre which will be built in the current Car Park 1.

A number of spaces will remain in Car Park 1, including a number for users with disabled badges. Car Park 1 will also have a new entrance and exit from the main avenue.

The new paediatric centre is part of an overall plan to modernise hospital services for children and young people across the Southern Trust.

All planned paediatric surgery for the Southern area will be centralised in a new purpose designed centre on the sixth floor at Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.

Work on the new Craigavon build will begin on Tuesday, April 26.

Welcoming the new development, Interim Chief Executive for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Kieran Donaghy said: “We are continually developing our services to meet the changing needs of our population and improving standards of care.  After several years of planning, we are delighted to see work on the new paediatric build begin and look forward to being able to offer families the highest standards of paediatric facilities across both of our acute hospitals.

“We appreciate that the new car parking presents a big change for everyone who uses the hospital, but hopefully with the signage around the site and with the help of staff, we will all get used to the new arrangements quite soon.

“We would like to thank patients, visitors and staff for their continued patience and co-operation as work continues to make these improvements to local services.”

Construction work on the new development is planned for completion in 2017.
