Claustrophobic cannabis accused told no need to re-sign as he is granted continuing bail

A defence barrister told a previous court the defendant suffers from claustrophobia and did not wish to go through the courthouse cells to sign bail

Craigavon Magistrates Court

A Lurgan man accused of possessing cannabis with intent to supply and possession of cannabis has been given continuing bail and the case sent to Craigavon Crown Court for arraignment on January 27.

Matthew Robert McKiernan (32), of Ann Street, is alleged to have committed offences on November 11 last year.

At Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday he was released on continuing bail and, on that basis, District Judge Michael Ranaghan said there was no need for him to re-sign it.

A defence barrister told a previous court the defendant suffers from claustrophobia and did not wish to go through the courthouse cells to sign bail.

On that day Judge Ranaghan had agreed the defendant would not have to go through the cells.
