Company director clocked driving at 104mph on M1 given two month driving ban

She overtook police driving a hire car and 'did not notice the speed', her solicitor said

A woman caught driving at 104mph on the motorway has been handed a two-month disqualification.

A district judge told the 31-year-old: “Anyone driving at 104mph regardless of the road or the time of day must lose their licence.”

Ceire Dympnia McQuaid, of Irvinestown, Co Fermanagh, pleaded guilty to excess speed at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Court heard that on October 12, at around 11pm, police were overtaken by the defendant on the M1.

Officers checked the speed of the vehicle which registered at 104mph.

Defence counsel stated: “Ms McQuaid is the director of an IT software company and has to travel all over the UK but she is mainly based in London.

“This was at 11pm on the M1. There was not a lot of traffic.”

She said: “She was driving a hire car she picked up from the airport. She was not used to the vehicle and did not notice the speed at which she was travelling.”

District Judge Peter King stated: “Anyone driving at 104mph regardless of the road or the time of day must lose their licence.”

McQuaid was disqualified from driving for two months and ordered to pay a fine of £350, along with the offender’s levy of £15 within 12 weeks.
