A familiar but neglected landmark waterwheel in Craigavon must be included in the overall South lake Leisure Centre project.
SDLP Councillor Thomas Larkham is imploring council to include the feature, a mainstay in the area for many decades.
“The waterwheel is a key landmark feature for all those who have lived and grown up in the Brownlow and Central Craigavon areas,” explained Mr Larkham.
“Unfortunately, over the years it has been allowed to fall into a bad state of disrepair with no maintenance or investment.
“That is why I am now calling on Council to ensure that the water wheel is restored and the area around it regenerated alongside the new South Lake Leisure Centre.
“Millions have gone into building this new leisure centre and it would be a crying shame if this feature and the area around it did not complement this huge investment given its close proximity to the SLLC.
“This corridor is the first impression that visitors using public transport will see and in my opinion it must be a welcoming first impression.”
