Craigavon man accused of collecting information about police officer set for trial

A Craigavon man accused of collecting information about a police officer has had the case sent to the Crown Court.

Sean Patrick Martin (41), of Carrigart Manor, is charged in relation to July 6, 2023.

The first charge read out at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday was that ‘on the 6th day of July 2023, without reasonable excuse, made a record of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, namely a photograph containing an image of an off duty Police Service of Northern Ireland constable and his private motor vehicle, and a record of a house number connected to that constable contrary to Section 58(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2000’.

He is also charged with ‘publishing or communicating information’.

That charge is: ‘On the 6th day of July 2023, without reasonable excuse, communicated information about an individual who is or has been a constable in the Police Service of Northern Ireland which was of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism contrary to section 58A(1)(b) of the Terrorism Act 2000’.

The defendant was released on continuing bail and the case was sent to Craigavon Crown Court on November 7.

The court was told the case is then likely to be sent to Belfast Crown Court for a non-jury trial.
