Craigavon man accused of sexually assaulting police officer has charge withdrawn by prosecutors

Craigavon Court

A Craigavon man who had been accused of the sexual assault of a police officer has had the charge withdrawn by prosecutors.

Eoin Clarke (21), of Drumbeg, had been charged in relation to August 10 this year.

The charge had been that he ‘intentionally touched … the circumstances being that the touching was sexual, that he did not consent to the touching and you did not reasonably believe that … so consented’.

A defence lawyer had told an earlier court the charge related to a police officer. The lawyer had said the allegation was “over clothing, an attempt at penetration”.

At Friday’s sitting of Craigavon Magistrates’ Court a prosecutor said the charge has been withdrawn.

New charges have now been brought – assault of a police officer and resisting another officer in the execution of their duty on August 10.

The defendant denies the charges.

The case was adjourned to November 7.
