A Craigavon nurse has been suspended from his role from within the NHS while proceedings into child sex charges are ongoing.

Marvin Jay Macauba, of Drumford Close, appeared in the dock of Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday accused of attempted sexual communication with a child; attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming; and incitement to distribute indecent photo of a child.

The 36-year-old appeared briefly, confirming his name and that he understood the charges against him.

A police constable told the court he was aware of the facts and could connect the accused to the charges.

While no details of the alleged incident were heard the charges relate to suspected offences on July 9.

Macauba was released on his own bail of £300 and was warned, as part of his bail conditions, not to have any unsupervised contact with any child under 16 without prior approval of Social Services.

Defence counsel, in applying for legal aid, explained that her client is currently suspended from his role as an NHS nurse. He was handed an 18-month interim ban in July by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan granted legal aid and adjourned the case until January 10.
