A number of defective footbridges in Craigavon are still to be repaired despite an inspection taking place more than 18 months ago.
Footbridges leading to Parkmore and Enniskeen were inspected in September 2022 and found to have a number of defects, including corrosion of railings, along with the requirement for cleansing of the drainage.
However, to date, no repairs have been carried out.
Craigavon Councillor, Robbie Alexander, has called for urgent reparation to the bridges affected.
“I am deeply concerned that repairs for footbridges in Craigavon have not been carried out for over a year and a half since they were first raised,” said Councillor Alexander.
“The Department for Infrastructure must ensure that these repairs are completed as soon as possible to prevent further deterioration of these vital community links.
“We have already seen with the demolition of the Moylinn footbridge, the negative impact on the local community when these assets get past the point of repair, therefore early intervention is essential.
“Alliance has written to the Minister for Infrastructure asking that he intervenes urgently on the matter and we will continue to engage with DfI officials to ensure these repairs to footbridges in Craigavon are carried out.”
