A man was detected drink driving in Portadown after going to watch a football match.
Marcio Fernandes Ncuenjele (25), of Bluestone Hall in Craigavon, admitted driving with excess alcohol in breath around 11pm on Saturday, June 20 this year.
Craigavon Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, was told the defendant had an alcohol in breath reading of 64mcgs – the legal limit is 35mcgs.
A charge of having an extendable baton as an offensive weapon in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse on June 20 was withdrawn by prosecutors for a caution.
A defence lawyer said the defendant had left his car at a friend’s house and had “gone to a football match” and had not realised the amount he had drunk during the day before “attempting to drive home”.
He had a previously clear record but has now been banned from driving for a year and fined £250.
