A Craigavon man who drunkenly walked over a car has been ordered to pay over £2,700 in compensation to the injured party.
The 31-year-old’s solicitor this was a “moment of madness” from the defendant, who has no previous record, and that he was extremely “embarrassed by his behaviour”.
Michael Sheridan, of Drumbeg, appeared for sentencing on criminal damage at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Defence solicitor Siun Downey told court that the case had been adjourned on the previous occasion for the defendant to bring compensation in the value of £2,779.31, which he had with.
Prosecution outlined that on April 23, at around 1.30am, the injured party had parked their car on Edward Street in Lurgan.
The defendant was observed to have walked over the bonnet of the car onto its roof and jumped off the rear, causing dents in the roof; this was all caught on dash cam footage.
Police were flagged down by the injured party who pointed out Sheridan as the culprit.
When interviewed, the defendant made full admissions to the offence, stating he was drunk.
Ms Downey said: “This was a moment of madness, he has no record and is extremely embarrassed by his behaviour.
“He had tried to pay for the damage before it came to court but the injured party was in Pakistan for some six weeks.”
District Judge Mark McGarrity stated: “In sentencing I am taking into account your guilty plea and the significant amount of compensation which is to be paid.”
Sheridan was ordered to pay compensation of £2,779.31 to the injured party and was handed a conditional discharge for two years.
