A “flawed” strategy for the provision of pitches in the Craigavon area should be withdrawn.
That’s the opinion of Sinn Féin’s Catherine Nelson, who is also Chair of Leisure Services Committee on the ABC Council.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s full council meeting she said: “The statement from the GAA Ulster Council saying they were not consulted is damning and evidence that proper consultation has not taken place.
“Councillors were assured consultation had taken place however this is far from the reality.
“The Ulster Council have made it clear they were not consulted and a number of GAA clubs have been in touch to say the same.
“The lack of consultation reflects the absence of any planned Council provision for the GAA.
“Given this lack of consultation or provision for the GAA the report should be withdrawn.
“A proper consultation should now take place in conjunction with a full equality impact assessment. The findings of both should then be presented to Council for decision.”
