Former postal worker who stole iPhone and 1,000 Viagra tablets sentenced to probation

No order of restitution was made with regards to the Viagra tablets as the owner had not been identified

A Craigavon man who stole an iPhone and 1,000 Viagra tablets has been sentenced to six months probation and was ordered to pay restitution.

The 34-year-old’s solicitor told court: “The reason for his offending was that he was living beyond his means.”

Jonathon Morrow, of Drumbeg, appeared for sentencing on two counts of theft, two counts of interfering with mail as a postal operator and fraud by false representation at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecution outlined that on September 11, Royal Mail investigated the theft of an iPhone from their depot in Craigavon.

The mobile device was put up for sale on Ebay, it was sold and returned to an address which was linked to the defendant, an employee.

As a result, Morrow’s home was searched and during this 1,000 Sildenafil Citrate, more commonly known as Viagra, tablets were located.

Defence solicitor Gerard Maguire stated: “The reason for his offending was that he was living beyond his means. He has no record and has now thankfully secured a new job, but this took him about five months.

“He describes this offence as destroying his life. He now suffers from anxiety because of the court process and the ramifications.”

He added: “He has one child, from a previous relationship, who he sees three or four times a week. Restitution is very much in his mind and this morning he volunteered that to me.

“I would also ask that your worship takes the probation report’s recommendation of engaging with probation and community service.”

Morrow was sentenced to six months probation and was ordered to pay restitution of £600, for the iPhone, within 18 weeks.

No order of restitution was made with regards to the Viagra tablets as the owner had not been identified.
