The Pharmacy Department in Craigavon Area Hospital is celebrating after Mental Health Pharmacist Aaron Coulter was presented with a ‘Tutor of the Year’ award at the Ulster University.
The Pharmacist Tutor of the Year award is made to the individual who has demonstrated excellence in the tutoring of trainee pharmacists.
Hospital pharmacy placements are provided from first to fourth year, by pharmacists in the Northern, Southern, Western and South Eastern Trusts for students at Queen’s University, Belfast and Ulster University, Coleraine.
Students get an opportunity to nominate pharmacist tutors who have been particularly inspirational for this award. Each Trust employs a robust approach to submit one nomination to the Universities’ judging panel, who agree the overall winner.
Dr Tracey Boyce, Southern Trust Director of Pharmacy, said: “Trust pharmacists have a key role to play as the pharmacist tutor, in assisting students to develop their clinical skills, encouraging professional socialisation and acting as role models to promote hospital pharmacy as a career.
“As such, it is important that their contribution in shaping tomorrow’s pharmacists is officially recognised.
“Aaron is an outstanding pharmacist, who inspires students when teaching through his meticulous preparation, passion for his work, ability to engage students and explain concepts clearly and I want to congratulate Aaron for achieving this prestigious award.”
