A district judge had dismissed charges relating to a Covid regulation breach citing the recent revelations of Downing Street parties.
David Noel Cassidy, of Windsor Hill in Waringstown, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with contravening a requirement under Health Protection Regulations and failing to comply with a prohibition notice under the same regulations.
None of the facts were heard, but the defendant is alleged to have committed these offences on February 10, of last year.
District Judge Bernie Kelly first commented on the 47-year-old’s likeness to Dominic Cummings, the former Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister, who took an infamous trip to Barnard Castle during the height of restrictions.
She stated: “I can’t see how we can sentence on these given they’ve been ignored by the highest office in the land.”
Dismissing the charges, the judge commented: “I am not sentencing on these, given what we are now aware of. Mr Cassidy you are free to go.”
