Last orders called as popular Moira restaurant The Alchemy to close this weekend

In another blow for the local hospitality industry, a hugely popular eatery in Moira, has announced its closure this evening (Friday).

The Alchemy, a beloved culinary haven, cited the strain on the local economy as the reason for its closure.

Formerly known as The Chestnut Lodge and Chesters Nightclub, the establishment – based on Chestnut Hill Road – drew gastronomes from near and far with its warm hospitality.

Chesters Nightclub, which made its name in the 90’s, was renowned for country music enthusiasts; many an Irish country music artists’ career was launched in the venue.

Taking to social media, the current owners stated: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our business due to the challenging economic climate we are currently facing.

“The unprecedented circumstances and uncertainties have made it increasingly difficult to sustain our operations.”

Unfortunately, the hospitality industry, like many others, has been severely impacted by the economic climate. Rising costs of ingredients, increased competition, and fluctuating consumer spending patterns have all contributed to a challenging operating environment for countless businesses.

Thanking customers, the social media statement, continued: “We want to express our sincere gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the years. It has been an honour to serve you and be a part of this vibrant community. We truly appreciate the trust and loyalty you have shown us.

“Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to adapt and navigate these challenging times, the financial burden has become insurmountable. This decision was not made lightly, and we have explored every possible avenue to keep our doors open.”

The decision to close would appear not to be an easy one with the owners pouring their hearts out thanking staff as well as customers.

They added: “Our dedicated team members have been the backbone of The Alchemy, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them. They have displayed unwavering commitment and dedication, even in the face of adversity.

“Although this chapter is coming to an end, we are hopeful that brighter days lie ahead for our community and economy. We encourage you to support local businesses that are still operating, as they need your patronage now more than ever.”

The Alchemy’s last service will be this Sunday, July 9.
