Lurgan man charged following ‘paedophile hunter sting’ in Craigavon

Courts justice

A 56-year-old Lurgan man is accused of attempting to make a ‘sexual communication’ with a child.

Paul McConville, of Avondale Green, is alleged to have committed an offence on April 22 this year.

It is believed the charge follows a so-called ‘paedophile hunter sting’ in Craigavon, a video of which is on social media.

At Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday it was said the defendant is in custody on remand but he was not being produced to the video link.

A prosecutor said police said the case file is being passed to a ‘Child Internet Protection Team’ and the investigation “may be protracted” as phone examination is needed and “further digital evidence” also needs to be looked at.

The defendant was further remanded in custody and the case was adjourned to August 22.
