Lurgan man who had ‘stool’ as offensive weapon will ‘spend life in prison by steps’ if offending continues

He also admitted damaging a TV and a mobile phone, assaulting two police officers and attempting to cause criminal damage to a police car

A Lurgan man who pleaded guilty to having a ‘stool’ as an offensive weapon with intent to commit assault, has received a 10 months jail term.

Lee Knox (27), of Lurgan Tarry, committed offences on July 29 last year.

He also admitted damaging a TV and a mobile phone; assaulting two police officers; and attempting to cause criminal damage to a police car.

Full details of the incidents were not outlined at Friday’s sitting of Craigavon Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant had been on remand in custody since the summer.

A defence barrister said: “On this particular occasion he had taken cocaine and he says he has absolutely no intention to abuse that drug again.”

The defendant had a previous record.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan told the defendant: “If you ever want to have any sort of a life you need to change your ways.”

He said the defendant was potentially going to spend “life in prison by steps” if he continues to offend.
