Craigavon Courthouse

A 66-year-old man has been returned for trial on historic child sexual abuse charges which are alleged to have occurred in the Craigavon area.

Appearing for a committal hearing was Wilson Alexander Reid who has been bailed to reside at Ferris Bary Road, Islandmagee who is charged with a total of 20 counts over an approximate six year period.

These involve 18 counts of indecent assault and two of gross indecency with a child.

Offending is alleged to have occurred on various dates between November 2001 and August 2006.

No details of the circumstances of the charges were disclosed during the short hearing, with the exception of there being one male complainant.

A prosecuting lawyer told Craigavon Magistrates’ Court there is a case to answer which was agreed by District Judge Michael Ranaghan.

Reid spoke only to confirm his identity and that he understood the charges against him.

He declined to call witnesses or give evidence on his own behalf at this stage in proceedings.

Judge Ranaghan remanded him on £500 bail to appear for arraignment at Craigavon Crown Court on 17 June.
