A 32-year-old man has been arrested for dangerous driving after police officers – backed up by air support – gave chase through Craigavon.
Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon local policing Sergeant Patterson said officers on patrol in the Moyraverty Road area at around midday today (Tuesday) observed a motorbike, bearing ‘L’ plates, being driven erratically at the roundabout.
When signalled to stop for police, the driver instead made off at speed.
Added Sergeant Patterson: “Officers were immediately concerned that the manner of driving was placing members of the public at risk. With the assistance of our Air Support Unit, who were able to track the Aprili bike’s journey, specially trained officers then commenced a pursuit.
“At times, the bike reached speeds in excess of 50mph in 30mph zones, as the driver attempted to evade police.
“The driver was detained in the Larkfield Meadows area a short time later, and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while unfit and failing to stop for police.
“His vehicle was seized and he remains in custody at this time.”
Sergeant Patterson concluded: “It’s fortunate that traffic in the area was relatively light – or we could have been looking at much more serious consequences this afternoon. We’re grateful that we were able to stop this vehicle before damage, injury, or worse, could be caused.
