A Co Armagh man broke a 30-year clean driving record after being caught speeding.
Asen Asenov, of Flush Place in Lurgan, had three penalty points endorsed on his licence.
The 49-year-old admitted speeding and having a defective light at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that at around 11.30pm on May 30 police observed a Mercedes Sprinter van, with a Bulgarian licence plate, driving above the 40mph speed limit on the Portadown Road.
Officers followed the vehicle for over half a mile and, in order to maintain the same distance from the van, had to travel at between 60mph and 65mph.
Police also noted that the rear right side light of the vehicle was not working.
Asenov, who represented himself in court, said in his defence: “I was in a rush and I already had a warning from work.”
He also told the court that he had been driving for over 30 years and had never before committed a motoring offence.
Asenov was handed three penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £125, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
