A Moy man who was stopped for not wearing a seatbelt has been handed six penalty points after he was found not to have the correct insurance cover.
Friday’s court heard that this was the 37-year-old’s third entry in his record for no insurance.
Mark Brain McCormack, of Aghinlig Road, pleaded guilty to failing to wear a seatbelt and using a vehicle without insurance at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court.
Court heard the defendant was stopped on Lisniskey Lane, Portadown, at 8.05am on June 26 after police noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Checks showed that the insurance policy on the Ford Transit van McCormack was driving was not appropriate for the building trade which he was part of.
Defence counsel informed the court that this was the defendant’s third entry in his record for no insurance, although the previous two were of “some vintage”.
McCormack was handed six penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £375, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 12 weeks.
