Man who got into argument at Rushmere over ‘family feud’ says he did not regret it

But he did remark: 'I am just sorry it was in front of kids and a public place'

A Scottish man who had a argument with another male with whom he had a ‘family feud’ was denied a caution after telling police he did not regret it.

Court heard the 30-year-old during interview told officers: “I am just sorry it was in front of kids and a public place.”

Daniel Anderson, of Barshare Road in Ayrshire, pleaded guilty to common assault at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Prosecution outlined that on September 28, the injured party had been with his two young children in Rushmere shopping centre in Craigavon.

Court was told he had exchanged words with the defendant over previous incidents.

Anderson then approached the injured party from across the shopping centre and others present had to intervene.

During a voluntary interview, the defendant made full admissions to the offence.

However, in a notebook interview when asked if he regretted the incident Anderson replied: “Not a bit.”

He added: “I am just sorry it was in front of kids and a public place.”

Defence solicitor Conor Downey stated: “This all came out of a family feud. This was completely inappropriate language and behaviour.

“He was not able to avail of a caution because of his behaviour, both at the time and during interview. He is a man with a completely clear record.”

Anderson was handed a conditional discharge for 12 months.
