A man with over 150 previous convictions was caught driving whilst unfit with a ‘cocktail’ of drugs in his system.
Caolan Padraig Shields (37), with an address listed as Garrymore in Craigavon, pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit; driving whilst disqualified; using a vehicle in a dangerous condition; and absence of insurance.
On January 23 last year police saw him in a vehicle in Lurgan.
The defendant was then found to be unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech. A blood sample showed drugs.
The vehicle handbrake was not working; an axle was bent; and a tyre had a “large bulge”, a prosecutor said.
A defence lawyer said the defendant had a “cocktail” of drugs in his blood.
At Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, a four months prison term and three year driving ban were handed down.
