Men armed with hammer demand cash and alcohol from female staff member

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses following a report of a robbery at commercial premises on Lurgan Road, Magheralin last night, Saturday, 25 January.

At approximately 9.00pm two masked men, one of whom had a hammer, entered the premises.

They demanded cash and alcohol.

They made off from the scene with a sum of cash and a quantity of alcohol.

There was one female of staff in the premises at the time of the incident. She was not injured, however she has been left very badly shaken.

Detectives would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area of Lurgan Road or who has information they believe would assist with police enquiries, to call detectives at Lurgan on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1755 25/01/20.

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”

Upper Bann Ulster Unionist MLA Doug Beattie commented: “Yet again we have people who feel that they have some right to steal and terrorise small business that serve our community.

“The robbery in Magheralin where two men, armed with a hammer, threatened a female member of staff and demanded money and alcohol demonstrates the need for robust policing and stiff sentencing.

“This incident would have been terrifying for the young lady working in the premises at the time. It highlights the something for nothing attitude of some people.

“The fact their actions could leave a woman shaken or a close community frightened does not even enter their selfish, self interested minds.

“As a community we must stand against theses thieves and thugs.”
