A vacant Sainsbury’s size hole could soon be filled with a new and “exciting” tenant at Rushmere Shopping Centre, Armagh I can reveal.
Talks are currently ongoing behind the scenes to have the former Sainsbury’s unit filled following its departure in February 2022.
While negotiations have been ongoing ever since the unit became vacant, Paul Wilson – an agent for property advisors Savills – told Armagh I that, while he could not disclose details of potential tenants, there was some “positive interest” in the unit with an announcement expected in due course.
Whether it was one or more shops remains to be seen, however, it will be a significant boost to the local jobs market.
Mr Wilson did however tell Armagh I that the centre has seen a real uplift in foot traffic – and spend – since the arrival of Primark as its new anchor tenant following the closure of Debenhams in January 2021.
Potential tenants have ramped up their interest since the arrival of the popular fashion retailer, with Mr Wilson stating the “new and exciting” tenant/s will look to complement Primark and the other stores within the centre.
In April, Armagh I also exclusively revealed plans were afoot for a huge new state-of-the-art 24-hour gym – which would create over 30 jobs – above Primark.
Primark is using the entirety of the ground floor but the vast first floor of the property looks set to be sub-divided and converted and brought back into productive use, with a very large part of it earmarked for the new gym. Read the full story here.
