A Newry man who was caught travelling at 92mph in a 60mph zone on the A1 has been banned from driving for a month.
Court heard from the deputy district judge that the 30-year-old had previously been handed a nine month ban for driving with excess alcohol.
John O’Leary, of Glenvale Heights, pleaded guilty to driving with excess speed at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Prosecution outlined that on June 14, at around 3.40pm, the defendant was detected travelling at 92mph in a 60mph zone on the A1, Dromore.
Defence counsel stated: “He had been in Belfast working as a joiner on a building site when he got a call from his partner who had difficulties picking up one of their children.
“His licence is essential to his employment. He does have one previous driving matter from some three years ago.”
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer said: “He does have a previous driving with excess alcohol for which he was disqualified for nine months.
“On this occasion he was driving at 92mph at 3.40pm on a Friday evening on the busy road between Belfast and Newry.”
O’Leary was disqualified from driving for one month and was ordered to pay a fine of £400, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
