Tributes have been paid following the passing of an Aghalee husband and wife, who died just hours apart.
In what has been described as a “bittersweet moment” Eileen (90) and Henry (88) Lavery’s souls departed this earth within hours of each other at Craigavon Area Hospital, surrounded by their loving family.
Together, they had four children, Aidan, Gerard, Andrew and Barry and nine beloved grandchildren.
And, each came from larger families. Eileen was one of nine siblings. Henry, one of eight.
While their deaths have caused a profound sorrow within their local community, many are recognising the gentle mercy in that neither had to face life without the other.
Sharing this sentiment, one person said: “So sad, but so very sweet also. It’s how I’d want to go, not living a day more than the love of my life so I didn’t have to miss them.”
Another shared their fond memories of the couple, adding: “Oh my goodness that is so sad losing mum and dad at the same time. Your mum was such a lovely woman I use to go to Imelda Truesdale craft class with her.
“She was a kind smiling adorable lady. I also met your dad too he was such a character and your mum just adored him. They are at peace together God bless.”
A death notice said they will be sadly missed by sons Aidan, Gerard, Andrew and Barry, daughters-in-law Rosemary, Martina, Patrina and Jeanie.
They were proud grandparents of Ryan, Niall, Ciaran, Cormac, Coilin, Owen, Ronan, Laura and Clodagh.
A joint Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday November 1, at 10am in St Patrick’s Church, Aghagallon followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
The family have requested no flowers please with donations, if desired, made online via www.ronniethompson.co.uk or cheques payable to Marie Curie.
