A Craigavon man who drove into the back of another vehicle after emerging from a junction has been handed three penalty points.
The 25-year-old’s legal representative stated that the defendant accepted that he was distracted.
Adrian Tona, of Parkmore, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Court heard that on December 15, at 9.10pm, police received a report of road traffic collision resulting in damage on the Mahon Road, Portadown.
The caller stated that at 6.45pm his Land Rover Freelander had been struck from behind by an Audi which had emerged from a lane.
He explained he had exchanged details with the other party.
The incident was later also reported by the defendant.
Officers attended Tona’s home, where he accepted being involved and gave his account.
He was subsequently cautioned for the offence for which he was before the court.
When interviewed, the defendant made full and frank admissions.
Defence counsel stated: “He accepts that he was distracted as he was coming out of the junction.
“There was relatively minor damage in the accident which has been taken care of.”
He added: “Mr Tona is married with one child, who regularly has to be taken back and forth to hospital”.
Court heard that Tona has been residing in Northern Ireland since 2017.
The defendant was handed three penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £75, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within six weeks.
