The opening of the South Lake Leisure Centre (SLLC) in Craigavon will go ahead, in accordance with Covid-19 regulations, it has been confirmed.
The leisure centre, its pool and gym, will open on Monday, November 2. The centre’s other facilities will open when regulations allow.
As Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s largest flagship project to date, the SLLC is understood to have cost at least £35 million.
It had been due to open on August 15 this year.
However, due to the lockdown earlier in the year, completion of the centre was delayed.
Built by Farrans, the new centre will boast a 50 metre pool, a young children’s indoor leisure water feature, a 1,000m2 state-of-the-art gym, multiple studios, sensory room, eight-court sports hall, spin studio, soft play area and an on-site cafe run by social enterprise, incredABLE.
Speaking about the opening of the new facility, a spokesperson for Council confirmed the centre would open to the public, with a limited number of facilities on offer, in order to comply with current regulations.
“The new South Lake Leisure Centre will open to the public in line with current public health guidelines on Monday, November 2,” said a spokesperson for Council.
“As some restrictions on the use of the facility are in place, advanced booking is required to access the pool and gym at this time.
“All other leisure facilities will remain closed temporarily until restrictions are lifted. IncredABLE catering will be operating a takeaway service on the ground floor for public access.”
Based in Richhill, Co Armagh, incredABLE creates meaningful opportunities, training and skills development for people with a learning or intellectual disability, including those with autism.
