A post-mortem report is the only matter which is “holding up a decision” in the case against a County Armagh man accused of the murder of Nathan Gibson.
The 25-year-old father-of-one was discovered fatally wounded on a towpath near Lake Road in Craigavon in January.
Paul John Whitla, 40, of no fixed abode, is charged with the murder of Mr Gibson on January 16 of this year.
At Craigavon Magistrates’, sitting at Lisburn, on Friday, prosecution stated: “This case is at an advanced stage. The only thing holding up a decision is a post-mortem report.”
Defence solicitor Kevin McCamley commented: “Our concern is that he has been in custody, albeit on a serious offence, from January 20.”
District Judge Nigel Broderick stated: “Given the serious nature of the charges, at first blush a four week adjournment does not appear an unreasonable application.
“I do not just adjourn cases without looking and the deprivation of liberty is of great importance but it would appear there is progress.”
The case was adjourned until July 24 for a possible decision.
