Prosecutors seek SOPO for man who tried to make ‘sexual communication’ with child in ‘decoy’ case

A previous court heard it was a 'decoy' case involving a person posing as a '14-year-old child'

Craigavon Courthouse

Prosecutors are to apply for a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for a Portadown man who pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted sexual communication with a child in a so-called ‘decoy’ case.

Lee Sheffield (46), with an address listed as Tandragee Road, committed the offence between October 29 and November 7, 2023, according to his charge sheet.

A prosecutor told an earlier hearing at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court the defendant had no record.

A previous court also heard it was a “decoy” case involving a person posing as a “14-year-old child”.

At court on Friday the case was adjourned to June 6.
