The Southern Trust has fast-tracked 54 medical students into the system to help staff out at the two main hospitals in the region.
Both Craigavon and Daisy Hill Hospital will benefit from the influx of the third and fourth year student doctors.
They will begin work as Medical Student Technicians.
“Many thanks to all the senior consultants who took our new recruits through an intense induction session to have them ready to hit the ground running,” said a Trust spokesperson.
“The new junior doctors will be supporting our medical teams at Craigavon and Daisy Hill hospitals as well as the Community Rapid Response service.”
The number of coronavirus-related deaths in NI hospitals currently stands at 124.
As of last Thursday, 16 people had sadly passed away from Covid-19 at Craigavon Area Hospital.
Updated figures for individual hospitals have yet to be published.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed Covid-19-related deaths in the Republic of Ireland is 365, with the death toll across the UK at 10,612.
