An Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council Alderman has called for further information around Council’s decision to provide green bins to every household in the borough.
Speaking at Council’s monthly meeting in February, Alderman Gareth Wilson welcomed the announcement that Council has decided to extend the service.
The move will see all households across the borough use a green bin that will allow for the collection of dry recyclables, including glass in one receptacle that will be collected every fortnight.
Alderman Wilson said he was aware the contract period for the kerbside box system was due to expire this year but asked if members could be provided with a timeline of when the change will be implemented for residents within his constituency.
“With regards to the bins announcement, I know work is currently ongoing to ensure we converge on one system of recycling and that is good news,” said the Cusher representative.
“If it is possible, is there a timeline of actions that are going to be pursued now on the back of the public consultation and can that be provided to members?”
Council’s strategic director, Mark Parkinson said “it was quite a detailed plan not really suitable for major discussion at Council” but confirmed he would be in touch with Alderman Wilson to discuss it.
Councillor Paul Berry asked if all members could be made privy to the plan.
“There has been a massive response from the community with regards to to this consultation,” said Councillor Berry.
“That is very welcome and it is clear this will be a popular decision with many throughout the borough.
“But I, and I am sure other members as well, will have constituents asking us questions so can we all get that briefing from the strategic director please.”
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Kevin Savage, confirmed all members would be supplied with the information requested.
