Uninsured motorist had been ‘looking around’ for cover when caught by police

Defendant had one previous similar offence dating back to 2013

A Craigavon woman claimed she was “looking around” for insurance when she was caught by police.

The 49-year-old, who had one previous similar offence dating back to 2013, was handed six penalty points.

Kaouter Trabelsi, of Lakelands, pleaded guilty to using a vehicle without insurance at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Court heard the defendant was detected driving an Audi A7 on Central Way, Craigavon, at around 3.45pm on March 19.

Police stopped the car after it was flagged for no insurance but Trabelsi told officers that her partner had recently updated the policy.

Later, she admitted to police that the insurance on the vehicle had not been renewed.

Defence counsel stated the defendant claimed she had been “looking around” at insurances at the time she was detected.

Court heard Trabelsi had one previous no insurance dating back to 2013 and supported three children.

The defendant was handed six penalty points and ordered to pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 10 weeks.
