A Dromore woman who drove on the M1 whilst over twice the legal limit has been handed a 12 month disqualification.
The 45-year-old’s solicitor told court that the loss of her licence, although not immediately, would have an effect on his client’s employment as out of home work resumed.
Adelle Diane McClure, of Laganvale, had a plea of guilty entered on her behalf to driving with excess alcohol at Craigavon Magistrates’ on Friday.
Prosecution outlined that on May 31, at 8pm, police received a report of a female driving erratically on the M1 in a white Honda car.
Officers located the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who was identified as the defendant, on the hard shoulder.
A preliminary breath test was conducted resulting in a fail with an evidential sample obtained in custody giving a reading of 86mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – over twice the legal limit.
Defence solicitor Ciaran Downey stated: “This is a 45-year-old mother-of-three with no record. The past year she instructs has seen a downward spiral in her mental health.
“It is accepted that the high reading and the fact she was driving on the motorway are aggravating factors.”
He added that the loss of her licence, although not immediately, would have an effect on his client’s employment as out of home work resumed.
District Judge Bernie Kelly disqualified McClure from driving for a period of 12 months and ordered that she pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
