The Armagh Fleadh is set to return to Crossmaglen for the first time in over half a century.
The Comhaltas Ard Macha – the representative body for all Comhaltas branches within Armagh – is responsible for running Fleadh Cheoil Ard Macha.
Pitched as a “celebration of our music, our community, and our tradition”, the return marks a “truly special and historic moment” for the village, say the Crossmaglen-based Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann An Bonnán Buí.
They continue: “Over the past 15 years, our branch has gone from strength to strength, achieving great success at Fleadhanna at every level.
“It is only fitting that we now have the opportunity to host and showcase the very best of Irish traditional music here at home.”
The event is scheduled from May 25 to 31 and will feature a packed programme of events, including concerts, a lively session trail, exhibitions, singing sessions, storytelling, ceilis and competitions.
Musicians, families and visitors are expected to descend on the small, rural south Armagh village from near and far to witness the spectacle.
The week long event will see a number of popular and well known acts perform including ‘Chunky Business’, Armagh’s own Mickey Fearon, Iarla McMahon, Tomás O’Ceallaigh, Tom Keenan and the Colla Céilí Band.
A number of generous sponsors have backed the event including headline sponsors Crossmaglen Credit Union, Kis Pizza & Coffee Bar and Hanley Energy.
Said Kis Pizza owner, Patrick McEneaney said: “We are delighted to see the Fleadh back in Crossmaglen.
“It’s going to be a fantastic week with a huge amount of local talent on show in the area. We hope it’s well supported by the community and look forward to seeing everyone in the Square.”
