A Co Armagh man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe in 2013.
Aaron Brady, 27, of New Road, Crossmaglen was arrested as he left Wheatfield Prison in Dublin last Sunday.
He has appeared before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court this evening (Sunday).
He denies any involvement in the Mr Donohoe’s murder and will now be remanded in custody until March 9.
Mr Donohoe was shot dead in a robbery at Lordship Credit Union near Dundalk in January 2013.
Earlier today An Garda Siochana confirmed a man in his 60s who was arrested in Dundalk on Monday evening in connection with the murder had been released without charge.
A file will be prepared for the Irish director of public prosecutions following his release.
Gardai had made two separate requests last week to have the charged suspect’s period of detention extended by 48 and 72 hours.
In total, he spent seven days in custody – the maximum of 168 hours – before Gardai had to make the decision to charge or release without charge.
Court hears Mr Brady denied involvement in murder of Det Garda Donohoe when charged. Now remanded in custody to March 9.
