Vandalism to a Crossmaglen property being treated as a “cowardly attempt to intimidate and deter people from purchasing a home” has been strongly condemned.
The home in the Chapel View area was crudely spray painted with the words “No Sale. IRA.”
Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin MLA, Aoife Finnegan, immediately took to social media to call out those responsible, commenting: “Attempts to intimidate prospective buyers in Chapel View will not be tolerated.
“This behaviour is an attack on families and on the right to live free from fear.
“Chapel View is a strong community and these efforts to undermine it will not succeed.
“Our community will not be bullied, and we will work with all agencies to ensure Chapel View remains a safe and welcoming place for all.”
Sadly, the intimidatory behaviour may not be the only thing putting off prospective buyers.
Earlier in the month, Chapel View was the subject of a letter sent by the MLA to NI Water and the Department for Infrastructure (DfI).
Ms Finnegan spoke to residents to discuss a number of ongoing sewerage and sanitation concerns that are continuing to impact on daily life.
In the letter she detailed that residents had been dealing with blocked manholes, the inability to use household sanitation and sewage on private property since March 10.
It was her understanding that no pumping station was present at the development despite their being a need for one to ensure effective operations.
Calling it a “failure to deliver basic services” Ms Finnegan requested an urgent response from NI Water.
