A man who was caught driving with a fraudulent Lithuanian licence has been handed a £200 fine and three penalty points.
The 26-year-old, who represented himself, spoke only to confirm his name and plea.
Deividas Kempe, of Drumbear Wood in Monaghan, pleaded guilty to possessing a false identity document and no driving licence at Newry Magistrates’ on Wednesday.
Prosecution outlined that on September 29, at 1.20am, police stopped the defendant driving a Peugeot at a vehicle checkpoint on the Concession Road in Crossmaglen.
He produced to officers a Lithuanian driving licence which was broken in two. Police believed this to be false as it was devoid of any security features under UV light.
District Judge Eamonn King handed Kempe three penalty points and ordered him to pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within four weeks.
