Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced a further major investment of £250,000 in the roads network in Armagh city.
Resurfacing work and improvements to traffic signals are currently taking place on Friary Road Armagh.
The Minister said: “This is a further significant investment of quarter of a million pounds which will help improve the structural condition and signalisation of the main arterial route from the south and west of Armagh city.”
Preparatory work has started on the footways and on road crossings for signal improvements at Friary Road.
This will require a road closure for city bound traffic on Sunday 15 June. Works are planned to be completed at the end of the month, which will require further road and lane closures.
The slip road from Friary Road to Irish Street opposite McAnerney’s Supermarket will be fully closed on Monday and Tuesday, June 23 and 24, from 7am to 6pm each day, and one lane of this slip road will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, June 25 and 26, from 7am to 6pm each day.
The diversion route will be along Friary Road to the slip road opposite St Malachy’s Church at Irish Street.
A further lane closure is required for city bound traffic on Friary Road on Wednesday, June 25, from 7am to 5pm, and from Thursday to Saturday, June 26 to 28, from 7am to 6pm.
The diversion route for this closure will be from A28 Killylea Road to C188 Ballycrummy Road, the B115 Cathedral and onwards to the A3 Mall West at the Courthouse.
Final resurfacing and road marking at Friary Road and the slip road is planned for Sunday, June 29.
This requires road closures from 6am to midnight. The diversion route for city bound traffic will be as for earlier lane closures, which is along Ballycrummy Road, whilst for country bound traffic it will be along the A29 Newry Road to Markethill, the B3 Coolmillish Road to Ferla Crossroads, the B31 Armagh Road, the A29 Keady Road and the A3 Irish Street Armagh.
During periods of road closures access will only be available to local residents and to businesses and public buildings within the length of the closures.
A DRD spokesperson said: “It should be appreciated that some delays can be expected and should be planned for.
“Road users are advised to obey road and lane closures and direction signs at all times and to cooperate with site personnel in the interests of safety whilst these improvement works are being carried out.
“DRD would ask the public for their patience during these works as delays can be expected and should be planned for.”
