Tributes paid to ‘cherished’ Clonmore woman who embraced entire community

'Margaret will indeed be a huge loss to not only her family and club but to the community as a whole'

Tributes have been paid following the sudden passing of a “cherished” member of the Clonmore community who made a lifelong commitment to supporting those around her.

For many years Margaret Convie had embedded herself within every club, event and opportunity her area had to offer.

She was intensely proud of her friends and family and embraced every connection they shared.

Throughout her lifetime, she was a fervent supporter of several groups in her local area, including Clonmore Youth Club, Clonmore Regeneration Group and Clonmore Robert Emmets GFC, where her father had been a proud founding member and her sons and grandchildren played.

Sadly, Margaret passed away suddenly on October 8 sending shockwaves throughout her tight-knit community.

Speaking of their deep sadness and indebtedness to Margaret, Clonmore Youth Club: “Margaret was a truly wonderful woman and a great supporter of Clonmore Youth Club over the years. She was a cherished part of our community, always kind, encouraging, and proud of what the young people here were doing.

“From our Big Breakfasts and bingo nights to afternoon teas and fundraisers, Margaret was always there with a smile and a word of support. She never missed an opportunity to cheer us on, whether in person or with a like and a comment on Facebook.

“Her warmth, humour, and generosity touched everyone who met her, and she will be profoundly missed by all of us.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to all the Convie family at this difficult time, especially to her daughter Sinead, our long-standing Treasurer Gordon, their children Sarah, Catherine, Conor, and Cerys, and to all of Margaret’s beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who have joined us over the years as members and volunteers.”

As a mark of respect to Margaret and the Convie family – and in recognition of her many years of love and support for the community – Clonmore Youth Club will remain closed this week.

The Youth Club added: “May her gentle soul rest in peace, and may her kindness and community spirit continue to inspire all of us who were lucky enough to know her.”

Adding to the sentiments shared, the committee of Clonmore Regeneration Group said: “Margaret has been a longstanding and cherished member of the Clonmore community and great supporter of all CRG events.

“Margaret’s kindness, commitment, and sense of community will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

“At this difficult time, we extend our sincerest condolences to Margaret’s entire family circle. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you navigate this loss. May you find comfort in your memories and strength in the love and support of those around you.”

Of their “lifelong supporter” and mother to three of their former players, Clonmore Robert Emmets GAC added: “It is with great sadness and sense of shock that we learned of the untimely passing of one of our clubs most fervent supporters Margaret Convie (nee Molloy).

“Margaret – mother to former players Christopher, Raymond and Martin – has been a lifelong supporter of the Robert Emmets and was never more proud when her son Raymond (Ringo) became the first man to hold aloft a senior championship trophy in the history of our club.

“Margaret and indeed all the Molloy family have been long time stalwarts of our Clonmore Robert Emmets.

“Margaret’s brother Sean , former chairperson, Eileen, committee member, Malachy former footballer and committee member. Martin, former player, Thomas (RIP) staunch supporter of the Green and gold, Kathleen, supporter and Margaret’s father John a founding member of the current club.

“Margaret could be seen at all the matches sporting the club colours in her own style be it a green dress, gold top or whatever Margaret thought was best appropriate to support the lads and lassies on the pitch.

“Along with her sister Eileen, Margaret rarely missed any fundraising event no matter what it was or where it was but it was at the club quizzes were she showed greatest enthusiasm and with Eileen they would bring a great element of craic to the proceedings often challenging the beleaguered quiz master and causing great laughter in the hall or club.

“Margaret was so proud of her grand-daughter Katie (Convie) when she donned the Orange jersey in Croke Park a few months ago playing for Armagh in the All-Ireland camogie final.

“We will all miss Margaret’s sensible , no nonsense approach to life where she, only a few years ago she said good-bye to her husband Martin. Here, she as always, endorsed herself in the careers of her daughter’s grand-daughters and indeed all family siblings.

“Margaret will indeed be a huge loss to not only her family and club but to the community as a whole.

“To her late husband Martin, daughters , Sinead , Ciara and Clare , sons Christopher, Raymond and Martin and to the entire Molloy and Convie family we extend our heartfelt sympathy . Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Ar dheis dé go raibh a h-anam.”

A death notice described Margaret as the devoted wife of the late Martin (RIP), precious Mummy of Sinead (Gordon), Christopher (Kerrie), Ciara (Desy), Claire (Declan), Raymond and Marty (Ellen) and an adored Nanny, great granny, auntie and cousin. She was a dear sister of Martin, Mary (RIP), Eileen, Kathleen, Sean, Thomas (RIP) and Malachy.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11 in St. John’s Church, Moy at 2.30pm with internment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
